The Department of Trade and Industry organized a training for the branding of Negros Occidental's coffee products.
The training was conducted during the Negros First Negosyo Center last November 29. It was attended by about 30 coffee growers and processors in the province.
DTI’s purpose for conducting such training was to prepare Negros Occidental coffee producers in developing their own trademark. With the myriad of brands in the market, the trademark will serve as a marketing tool in building awareness of their products and creating customer loyalty.
Representatives of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) were also present during the event to administer the training. IPO talked about the importance and advantages of branding. Likewise, they discussed the process and requirements for registering a brand.
The Negros Occidental Coffee Association is planning to pursue the brand “Negros Coffee” by next year. It will be a collective brand of all the producers in the province – thus, giving their products traceability like those of in Sagada, Kalinga, and Benguet.
